Akamas Land Tour

Spend a full day exploring the untamed Akamas peninsula by 4x4. Roll past the lush banana plantations of the Paphos coast, scramble around the dramatic Edro III shipwreck and sea caves, and wander pretty St George village. Hike the towering walls of Avakas Gorge, pause for a proper Cypriot coffee in the mountain village of Pano Arodes, and drink in the panorama from the Akamas viewpoint. Cool off with a swim at unspoiled Lara Bay — a protected turtle-nesting beach — before the last stop at the Last Castle restaurant, a wonderfully rustic spot with no menu at all, perched with views over the whole Akamas and serving only traditional Cypriot pork and chicken souvla. Almost everyone eats there, but it is optional and not included in the price (and it is closed on Mondays, so it is not part of Monday departures). Guided in English and Hungarian; lunch is an optional extra, paid separately.

Akamas Land Tour — your questions

Are the tours suitable for children and families?
Absolutely — all three tours have child pricing, and the Blue Lagoon boat (the Nafsika II) even has a water slide. Do bear in mind the 4x4 tracks are bumpy and dusty, Avakas Gorge has slippery wet sections, and Lara and the open coast are real sea, so keep an eye on little ones and bring sun protection and swimwear.
What should I wear and bring?
Closed, sturdy trainers or light hiking shoes (essential for the gorge), plus sandals or water shoes for the swim stops. Bring swimwear and a towel, a hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, plenty of water and a camera. For Troodos add a light layer — the mountains are cooler. A little cash is handy for coffee, loukoumi and wine.
What's the difference between the Akamas Land Tour and the Jeep'n'Deep Blue Lagoon tour?
Both explore the Akamas by 4x4 with the Edro III shipwreck, the Akamas viewpoint and a Cypriot coffee at Pano Arodes. The Land Tour adds the Avakas Gorge and a swim at Lara turtle beach, and the last stop is the Last Castle restaurant — a wonderfully rustic spot with no menu at all, perched with views over the whole of the Akamas, serving only traditional Cypriot pork and chicken souvla. It's not included in the price, but almost everyone eats there (note it's closed on Mondays, so it isn't part of Monday departures). The Jeep'n'Deep swaps in the Baths of Aphrodite and finishes with a boat cruise aboard the Nafsika II to swim and snorkel in the Blue Lagoon — so it combines off-roading with a sea cruise.
Will I actually see turtles at Lara Bay?
Maybe — but it's never guaranteed. Lara is a genuinely important nesting beach for loggerhead and green turtles, with a conservation station running since 1978. Nesting is roughly June–August and hatchlings emerge mainly August–September, almost always at night. In season you'll see protected, roped-off nests; an actual turtle is a wonderful bonus rather than a promise. The swim on the wild turtle beach is the real highlight.
Is the Avakas Gorge walk hard? Will I get wet?
It's a moderate, mostly flat walk into a spectacular narrow canyon, but you cross a shallow stream several times and the rocks are slippery, so expect wet feet. Wear closed, grippy shoes and you'll be fine. It's not a long hike, and the towering 30 m+ limestone walls and the famous wedged boulder are well worth it.
